Domaine des Croix

Domaine des CROIX

David Croix

Domaine des Croix, helmed by the highly regarded David Croix, is emerging as one of Burgundy’s brightest stars from the historic wine region of Beaune. With a mere seven hectares, this small but mighty domaine is redefining the standard for Beaune wines, an area historically overlooked due to the dominance of larger négociants and the Hospices de Beaune.

Born in Montlouis and trained in Burgundy, David Croix is a prodigy in the world of wine. Completing his Diplôme national d’oenologue in just one year, he quickly distinguished himself under Benjamin Leroux at Comte Armand in Pommard. By the age of 24, Croix was already leading the historic négociant Camille Giroud, noted by Becky Wasserman for his serious and shrewd approach to winemaking.

In 2004, Croix embarked on a mission to elevate Beaune’s reputation by partnering with American investors to acquire and transform the underperforming Domaine Duchet into Domaine des Croix. His precise vineyard management, which has been organic since 2008, and his skillful cellar techniques, result in wines of remarkable balance, fresh fruit flavors, and mineral complexity. Croix’s commitment to low yields, minimal intervention, and careful aging culminates in a portfolio of 14 wines, including Beaune villages, six Beaune Premiers Crus, two Corton Grand Crus, and a distinguished white from En Charlemagne.

David Croix’s wines are not just a testament to his expertise but also a bold statement about the potential of Beaune’s terroirs. They strike a delicate balance between approachability and depth, offering a unique expression of the region’s character. With Domaine des Croix, David Croix is not only filling the long-standing gap for a benchmark artisan in Beaune but also redefining the narrative for this undervalued region of Burgundy.
