Domaine Benoit Moreau

Chassagne Montrachet

Domaine Benoit Moreau is a new star on the Chassagne-Montrachet scene, having recently taken over his share of the vineyards from Domaine Bernard Moreau in November 2020. Benoit's commitment to biodynamic farming and natural winemaking techniques has quickly garnered attention and critical acclaim, and his 2020 releases have been met with great success.

Benoit's vineyards are farmed biodynamically, with certification underway. He works all of his premiers by hand or with the aid of small caterpillar-tracked chénillards, and is experimenting with "tressage" instead of hedging the vines' canopies in some parcels. Green cover crops help build up organic matter in the soils and protect them from summer heat.

In the winery, Benoit crushes the grapes before pressing when the skins are fully ripe, and works exclusively with indigenous yeasts and bacteria. Élevage takes place in 228-liter barrels for 18 months, followed by bottling under high-quality natural cork and finishing wax. The resulting wines are focused on elegance, purity, and precision.

Benoit's portfolio of wines is impressive, featuring Chassagne-Montrachet lieu-dit bottling Les Charrières and premiers crus Chenevottes, Maltroie, Fairendes, Cardeuse (in white MONOPOLE and red), Grandes Ruchottes, and En Remilly. His commitment to natural winemaking and biodynamic farming is evident in every bottle, and his wines are a true reflection of the terroir and the people who work it.

Benoit's dedication to his craft and his commitment to natural winemaking techniques have quickly earned him a place among the top winemakers in the region. Best is to come in the future!
