Lalou BIZE-LEROY - Collector Books

Unique Book released by Domaine LEROY for her 90s Birthday: “To My Wines Over The Years”

For wine connoisseurs, the name Marcelle (Lalou) Bize-Leroy should just roll off the tip of the tongue. Dubbed as the Queen of Burgundy, she is one of the most powerful women in wine, formerly at the helm of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and now Domaine Leroy. Her family name, Leroy, has been synonymous with excellence in wine for over two centuries, with beginnings in trading wine. The family’s name has been brought to new heights by Lalou Bize-Leroy, great-granddaughter of Francois Leroy the founder of Maison Leroy, who now produces some of the region’s most prized wines.

Lalou Bize-Leroy’s wine making philosophy is to fully embrace a biodynamic way of agriculture. From the land, the soil, the plants, everything has life just like animals and people. Great wine comes from the land, according to Madame Lalou one does not need a winemaker to make great wine, the grapes are simply perfect.

This is why from 1988, Leroy vineyards are grown naturally free of any chemicals. Madame Bize-Leroy has devoted herself to handpicking vineyards, which today consists of 22 hectares of wines, including 9 Grands Crus, 8 Premier Crus, and 8 Appellations Villages. This means Domaine Leroy produces extremely low-yields but high quality wines, adding to their exclusivity and uniqueness.

Having spent more than half a century surrounded by wine and in making wine, as she enters her 90th year, Madame Lalou has published À Mes Vins Au Fil Des Ans, (To My Wines Over the Years). This book captures Madame Lalou’s lifetime of experience, appreciation, and dedication to wine, which appreciation of wine starts way before her vineyards came to being. In her book, she takes the reader through a careful selection of  fifteen wine regions in Burgundy. Each chapter begins with each area’s history from the middle ages to their arts, showcasing various artefacts and how it has influence in the region before she begins her exploration of their wine collection.

The crux of the content is Madame Lalou’s narration of each wine named in the book, with most being rare collectors’ items or no longer in production. One can only imagine and savour the richness of its tastes through her literature exploration.

Like a good wine, that has been well aged, cellared and produced in limited quantities. Madame Lalou has spent 5 years in creating this book, finessing it with her passion and dedication from winemaking to give an accurate recount of each piece of history, artefact, and portrayal of each wine. A limited edition of 600 copies available worldwide and possibly her’s only ever publication, like an exquisite Domaine Leroy wine, this book is a true collector’s item that will capture hearts and taste buds, a must for any wine enthusiast.

These are officially distributed by SOUVERAINE LTD, distributor of Domaine LEROY and Domaine d’AUVENAY wines since 2008 in Hong Kong and in Mainland China
