CAMILLE THIRIET

Comblanchien

Camille THIRIET was Born in Paris, with no links to the world of wine, Camille Thiriet's journey to becoming a vigneronne in Comblanchien was anything but predictable. Initially drawn to the world of perfumery after her literary studies, she was intrigued by the art of recognizing aromas. This curiosity led her to study in Beaau in 2008, where she found herself amongst children of local winemakers, with only the wines her grandmother loved as reference points.

A Master's in International Wine Trade in Bordeaux later confirmed that instinct was invaluable. "I realized that it was not what I was looking for," she remarked. From there, she returned to Burgundy and began to cut her teeth at Nicolas Potel's winery, gradually nurturing the desire to take flight on her own. This longing materialized when she had the opportunity to acquire a few plots of vines, providing a foundation for her own domain.

In the beginning, Thiriet's production was admittedly small, complemented by purchasing a few local grapes. She wisely decided to focus on the Côte-de-Nuits Villages, providing her with a broad understanding of Burgundy's extraordinary potential. In 2016, only 2000 bottles emerged from her garage, vinified without water or electricity. With the help of Bernard Noblte from Domaine de la Romanee Conti (who has now retired and helps Camille on a friendly basis), and Jeremy Seysses of Domaine Dujac, she go serious people to help her in the early years.

With each passing vintage, Thiriet, alongside her partner Matt (they met at Domaine de Belle with Nicolas Potel), expanded her production by purchasing her first vine, followed by a few hectares on a magnificent vein of blue marls. These acquisitions resulted in juices of absolute purity.

Today, Thiriet maintains her "garage wine" spirit, firmly and independently. She ferments with indigenous yeasts, doesn't use additives, and bottles are lovingly hand-labeled and waxed. "I vinify as I cook. Without a recipe," she says. Her 2020 cuvée "Aux Montagnes" stunned us with its silky texture, akin to an infusion, and unraveled aromas of cassis, cocoa, and a hint of elderflower.

Thiriet's name has been circulating in hushed whispers over the past few months, and despite an annual production of nearly 13,000 bottles, her wines have already become genuine rarities. This might be because, without even meeting her, her cuvées express this subtle blend of grace and simplicity on her behalf.

In the fog-draped vineyards of Comblanchien, Burgundy, Camille Thiriet, with her dedicated craftsmanship, stands as a rising star in the world of wine. It is within her discretion that we recognize the true prodigies.
