A tasting that bridges the storied history of Burgundy with its exciting future.
Burgundy is defined by tradition, terroir, and the pursuit of perfection. Few names command as much reverence as our Reigning Kings—the unquestioned titans of the region. Tonight, we taste benchmark expressions from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the ethereal intensity of Domaine Leroy, the pure power of Dugat-Py, and the unmatched white Burgundy mastery of Coche-Dury. These are the estates that built the modern myth of Burgundy, setting a standard of excellence that felt untouchable for generations.
Sitting alongside these legends are The Heirs to the Throne—the visionary producers who are pushing boundaries, refining viticulture, and crafting wines that actively challenge the established crown. Tonight, we explore this new guard through the precision of Thomas Bouley, whose work in Volnay has elevated his estate into Burgundy's top echelon, and the meticulous craft of William Kelley, whose micro-scale approach is producing some of the most sought-after new expressions in the region.
A Note on the Vintages
We are acutely aware that opening these wines in their youth might traditionally be viewed as a glorious infanticide—these are bottles built to evolve gracefully over 10 to 20 years of cellaring.
However, our decision to serve them young and from the exact same vintage is entirely intentional. Because producers like William Kelley and Thomas Bouley have only begun crafting these singular, revolutionary wines in recent years, capturing them in their youth side-by-side with the old guard is the only true way to compare their craftsmanship on equal footing. Stripped of the influence of age and bottle variation, we get an unvarnished, raw look at terroir, technique, and vision.
Whether established royalty or newly anointed icons, every bottle on the table will represent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at its absolute apex.
